Mentoring & counseling

No matter when in life you discover your neurotype, there are many challenges associated with belonging to a neurominority, or being a family where one or more members are a different neurotype than the majority of society.

It can be an overwhelming and complex task to learn about one's neurotype, uncover one's own and one's children's needs, and finally figure out how best to meet them in a society that's often full of prejudices, demands, and expectations that aren't compatible with neurodivergent well-being. Conversations with a mentor and a sparring partner can help with this.

We can talk about anything (depending on where you are in your process): from different aspects of autism and neurodivergence, system stress, school/education, family life, systemic barriers, masking, the neurodivergent nervous system, and so on.

Mentoring and sparring is not the same as psychological counseling. If you are in crisis and need psychological help, we can recommend a psychologist we know who has a neuro-affirming practice.

Who will I be talking to?

Catrine, autist & counselor

Catrine herself is autistic, as well as married to an autistic individual and a mother to two autistic sons. She works in disseminating topics related to autism and neurodiversity.

Additionally, she is a psychology student at the University of Copenhagen, aiming to become a practicing autistic psychologist.

Catrine offers counseling and mentoring programs for families and neurodivergent individuals who seek guidance and support in creating a life that works for them on their own terms.

Who is this for

Mentoring and conversation sessions are aimed at neurodivergent teens and adults who would like neuro-affirming support to create well-being for themselves and possibly their family. You are of course welcome, whether you have been diagnosed through psychiatry, are self-diagnosed or are just considering whether you might be neurodivergent.

Neurotypical parents/siblings/grandparents/partners of neurodivergent people are also very welcome to come for talks. The focus here is on what it's like to be at the interface between neurodivergence and the neurotypical community, and how best to support the neurodivergent person(s) in your life while supporting your own well-being. You can ask anything - there are no stupid questions!

Practical information

Online sessions

Who participates in a session?

Usually you and your mentor, but it is also possible to arrange meetings with several people, such as parents or partners.

How long does it take

A conversation lasts 50 mins. It is possible to arrange double sessions of 100 mins duration.

Where does it take place

All conversations take place over Zoom. You can read more HERE about why most of our activities take place online.

When we talk together, we recommend that you sit in a quiet room where you won't be disturbed by others. You will need a computer with a webcam and microphone (e.g. microphone built into a headset).

When and how often?

It depends on what makes sense for you. Maybe one conversation is enough, or maybe you need several. You will agree this with your mentor.  We will agree on a time or times that make sense for your everyday life.

What does it cost?

As a starting point, a conversation costs 750 kr for 50 mins, 1500 for a double session of 100 mins.

If you are under financial pressure, please write so in your enquiry. We have a limited number of places reserved for people with limited finances, as we know finances can often be a challenge for neurodivergent people in the neurotypical community, which unfortunately means support becomes inaccessible to many who need it. We want to do our bit to counteract this. Read about our stance on ECONOMIC AFFORDABILITY here.

How do I book a session?

If you would like mentoring or counseling, please send an email to hello@neurokind.dk telling us a little about yourself and why you would like to have one or more sessions, and Catrine will contact you to arrange a meeting.

"You are the most ethically sound and 360-degrees empathetic therapist and human being I have met in my long life. I have never been seen, accommodated, and understood with such great insight and genuine humanity as you represent. I will never forget the inclusiveness and the great courage that comes from meeting a client in such a human way as a therapist. How I wish that everyone in distress or a fragile life situation could experience being seen and met in this manner."
